So I started the great onigiri attempt yesterday by finally going to Co-Op after work to buy some ingredients for the recipe. Last Monday I dropped by Sakura in Park Square and was shocked at their prices, especially the rice, so no, Co-Op it is.
When I got there I was so relieved to see the sale sign at the door. I was worried the sale would expire soon because of payday. I spent about 30 minutes in the store because I couldn't find the seaweed--weirdly enough, it was near the snacks section which I didn't dare forage because the Glico Pretz looked tempting, somewhat. The mayo was easy to find, but there were only two sizes available--1kg (huuuuuge) for P200 and 300g for only P75. I got the 300g one because I wouldn't want to waste 1kg in case the onigiri attempt fails. For the kani salad
fallenw0man is planning to do, I think we need to get more. Yamazaki has it in 500g.
Then I gave in to temptation and bought a pack of loose green tea leaves which I brewed after dinner for my dad and brothers to taste. XD It was wonderful! It was so nice and soothing. I need a strainer for my old teapot, though. It was so cool to brew loose leaf tea again. You just can't get the same joy when you have to settle for the crummy teabags.
Before I went to Co-Op, I actually walked over to Yamazaki first to check out their Pocky stocks (Co-Op doesn't have Pocky, hmph). Lo and behold, there were two new fab Pocky flavors they didn't have before. Frantic texting with
morethanfiction ensued (sms not verbatim--very close though lol):
Shar: OMG Pocky mousse! Pocky winter edition!
Chuck: OMG OMG OMG I wanna go there now!
Shar: Fuck, I'm on a chocolate ban! May hika ako e @_@
Chuck: OMG di na malayo ang pangarap natin na magkaroon ng Green Tea Pocky!
Shar: Kung meron binili ko na, no.
In the end, I didn't buy any despite my cousin's request for a strawberry box. Japanese food is expensive, dammit. I can't afford the 2kg rice at Co-Op, P750. Actually that's cheaper, because Sakura's rice goes even above 1k. @_@
Anyway, here be the new Pocky boxes (from Yahoo Images and Dormammu's Page of Crap)
( Anata mo watashi mo Pocky! )
When I was looking for pics of the Pocky flavors to post here, I saw a catalogue offering Pocky Milk Tea and went OMFG @_@! I loooove milk tea. There can be nothing more wonderful than milk tea, hot or cold. Gawd, now I want that Pocky flavor! Somebody give me that Pocky Milk Tea!!!!!!!!!1111111 Great, I am having exclamation point diarrhea.
Anyway, will buy the rest of the ingredients before Saturday, after I'm done deciding with what rice to use (malagkit or Japanese rice? Grrr). Karla, go na 'to! I just bloody hope I survive this week's workload and my hika attack, so logging off now. Ja!
