sakura_sake: Sakura in Shinjuku (bootsandblooms)
All those three times I've been to Japan, I always made time for Kyoto. Most of my memories of Kyoto are happy ones, which is not surprising because it's such a great place, and always pulsating with life and excitement--maybe not as crazily as Tokyo, but in its own unique way.

So, I don't know why really, but when I'm lonely, I always end up thinking of Kyoto.

Maybe because it's beautiful even in the rain? I remember that it was raining when we got off the shinkansen one morning in September, and it lasted until afternoon. We ended up walking around Nishiki Market because we had roofs over our heads for the most part. Because of the rain, Gion had to wait for the next day.

Maybe it's because I've always wanted to live in Uji, too, especially anywhere near the river. The scenery changes every time I go there, but it always feels like home.

I really don't know. But today, the sky is grey, there's a lot of work waiting, and my head is full of images of tiled roofs, puddles reflecting the lamps of Gion, a willow tree bent over a canal, brown maple leaves around my feet, the scent of matcha drifting in the air. If only it were that easy to fly back.
