Holier than thou
So I've finally finished reading Mrs. Dalloway after struggling with it for quite some time now. God, am I slow or what. It was eating my brain so much, I thought it was the best penance-thing I could think of doing on Good Friday--which isn't much, compared to my aunts trying to avoid food and failing miserably. I hate how they keep on bragging about fasting. It's so much worse than saying you're on a diet and yet you can't stay away from a slice of cheesecake. At least it sounds less pretentious when you're just dieting.
Anyhoo, before this becomes complete stream of consciousness kind of entry, I'll have to say I actually enjoyed Mrs Dalloway now that I've taken some time to take it seriously. If I had read it during the days when Sir Lito drowned my drafts in red ink for switching POVs, I would have put all the blame on Virginia Woolf. Then again, I'm not so sure if I can do stream of consciousness. I'd only embarrass myself. Anyway, this makes me want to read The Hours.
The next one up is Katherine Mansfield's In a German Pension which I am loving already. Woot. Here's a nice quote from "The Baron":
Now, there is something peculiarly intimate in sharing an umbrella.
It is apt to put one on the same footing as brushing a man's coat for him--a little daring, naive.
Ack. I love you, Katherine.

Toto is coming to Manila! I hardly knew them when I was growing up, but I kept on hearing "Roseanna" and "Africa" from the car radio during family trips to the province. Hahahaha, embarrassing, wot, but when Kat and I were talking about it the other day we were actually giggling like fangirls. God, I have to stop being such a nerd and start saving some money for that U2 concert.
